My inspiration for crochet sometimes comes from unexpected places. I recently unashamedly purchased a classic pair of flowing summer trousers embellished with gorgeous stylised flowers in yellows, golds, oranges, pinks, apricots set on a navy background. In these trousers I could see a colourful crochet afghan!
The rug I would create is a special gift for a friend celebrating her 80th birthday very soon – a momentous occasion in itself, a friend whom I have had an enduring friendship spanning 45+ years. As girlfriends do, we have shared many memories, tender moments and had some great laughs. Covid will keep us apart on her birthday, sadly further apart than our two states already do. I will not be able to give her this gift in person. I will not be there to hear her rich Irish accent and see her sparkling eyes when she opens her parcel!
